What is a Hacker? and What differs from a "Cracker"?

What is a Hacker? and What differs from a "Cracker"?
It's a little hard to tell what a hacker with a hacker. Think of it as follows: a hacker is an angel of the computer, and a cracker is a demon of computing, but in the sense of intentions, that is, one good and one bad.

The truth here is that a hacker is an expert in computer security, programming, information systems, Internet, security systems, and a large etc., while the cracker is also an expert in the areas mentioned above, and others.

However, the difference between each of these characters is the intention with which all use their knowledge: while one (the hacker, good) is implemented to protect and enhance the security of computer systems, the other (the cracker, bad ) uses this knowledge to disrupt and damage computer systems. Is quite clear.

Three attitudes would take a hacker would be: to determine where are the failures of computer systems that are their competition evaluate, analyze deeply and thereby offer solutions to improve and prevent attacks in the future.

Moreover, three of the most common attitudes are a cracker: evaluate where a computer system failure (ie, finding vulnerabilities or software bugs), see how you can exploit, and then going to break the system without compassion .

The most dangerous Internet worms

The most dangerous Internet worms
Hi all. For those who constantly surf the Internet we know we are exposed to many risks that are difficult to combat, and each day we will highlight a little known worms that travel through the network infecting computers and making life a little more difficult than it already is.
The most dangerous Internet worms

Picking up some history we can highlight the first worm of Internet who became famous as Morris (by the name of its creator, Robert Tappan Morris) was born on November 2, 1988. His power was so harmful, that had the capacity to slow the computers to the point of leaving them unusable. Now after over 20 years of existence today worms are a family of malware that are transmitted with greater force on the Internet.

Based on this, Microsoft shared a list of the most dangerous worms currently circulating in the network and that can give headaches to more than one:

Conficker: One of the threats, according to some security firms, will talk about with greater intensity in the coming months. This worm devours users' personal information, seeks to attack those most vulnerable in security on the Web and key delivery of emails to his accomplices phishers.

Taterf: The main characteristics of this worm highlights its ability to harassment of users, especially when conducting electronic transactions. It also has the power to intercept passwords easy deduction.

For example, when a user uses his computer to access the Internet and perform banking transactions, then the software captures and sends information to the offender without the victim noticing. Daniel Castellanos, Vice Asobancaria economic, explained that "it is important for customers to conduct their financial transactions from computers that have updated protection measures such as antivirus, antispyware, personal firewall and security patches to avoid the risk of malicious software installation ending capturing their usernames and passwords. "

Frethog: Found in the category of password interception programs and monitoring tools. Also stalker users performing electronic transactions and, as Taterf, captures passwords considered easy deduction.

Reindeer: It's in the category of Trojan downloaders and installers of malware. Of its features include using a form of Chilean Network package, deceiving users with pictures of camouflage as security software.

Rimecud: A worm that threatens to users who enter without security to the bank accounts from an Internet cafe or public computer, and seeks to gain control of computers. Also, install new malware designed to send spam and continue the infection cycle.

Autorun: Take advantage of users sharing private information on websites that do not have good security. It is able to lock keyboards and screens. It is also considered one of the worms that produce more losses for the financial sector.

Hotbar: Your main weapon is seduction act to users in the emails. It has the ability to threaten those who do not download security updates, and attacks while 'puppet head' through malicious websites.

FakeSpyro: One type of worm that have gained more ground is that of the 'rogues' or fake security solutions. FakeSpyro is one of the most dangerous and continues the tradition of his class to simulate a virus that is able to clean all malware from a computer. After-installed voluntarily by the victim, he believes will better protect your computer, captures personal information and passwords.

Alureon: This Trojan has rootkit features (able to hide himself and other malware tools and even legitimate directories and user passwords to control the computer remotely).

Zwangi: It is considered, despite its short life of crime, one of the most highly dangerous worms. Mislead users, usurping identities and attacks quietly. This worm redirects URL typed in the address bar of your web browser to www.zwangi.com, which supposedly is a search engine. It also takes screenshots without permission.

Some recommendations for preventing and combating worms:

As far as possible not to use unauthorized software security and recognition, as this has become one of the most common methods of attackers to defraud their victims. Also known as 'rogue' or 'scareware' and is software that appears to be beneficial from a security standpoint, but actually generates erroneous or misleading alerts, and by winning the confidence of victims, you can easily damage .
Maintain updated anti-malware defenses (antivirus, antispyware, firewall, etc..) And keep informed about the latest developments in preparation techniques of malware, including social engineering.
Attackers use Web sites to conduct attacks using phishing (phishing) or to distribute malware. Malicious web sites generally seem completely legitimate and show no outward indications of his nature, even for users with some experience.
Do not enter the page of the banks through links or emails , and preferably always typing the web address.
Keeping your computer security mechanisms such as antivirus, antispyware, personal firewall and security patches according to your operating system.

Even that above all remember to be cautious when surfing the net, do not trust the world or web applications or unknown or suspicious, and especially seek to be well informed of all news and updates on the Internet.

Reasons to Use Linux

Hi all. Many know the benefits of using Linux , whether or security, costs, profit, or many other features, but if you have not yet decided to use this excellent operating system, I want to share today 10 of the reasons why we use Linux .
Reasons to Use Linux

1. Because it's free: Not all Linux distributions and applications are free, but the vast majority. So with a zero budget can have an operating system image editor, word processor, browser, video player and music, games and much more.
2. You are free: Peaceful, Linux will not run around with your computer or make what comes out of their noses. Free means that you can do with it whatever you want. That is, install, test, share and if you are a porting even adapt your code to your needs.
3. It has many versions and programs: Tired of eating the same thing every day? In Windows you can only choose between Windows 95, 98, XP, 2000, Vista, ... That is, older versions of the same operating system. In Linux you can choose from hundreds of current versions of Linux: Mandriva, Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSuSE, ... each with its peculiarities. There are even specific versions for gamers, artists, translators, doctors and media junkies.
The same happens with other programs. You have at your disposal all kind of programs by default when you install your version of Linux, and hundreds of applications to discover.
4. Is certain: Forget antivirus, antispyware and other "anti". In Linux there are no viruses or any other kind of malware. And if any, as it is built into Linux, it would hardly hurt.
5. He gets along well with everyone: Linux is that friend who is always nice in a good mood and makes you try even though it favors fatal. He's used to other operating systems you put aside, and that forced him to smarten up. The most popular Linux distributions are accustomed to be installed on a Windows computer without problems and live with it. Also read your file systems (FAT32, NTFS, ...) which does not happen the other way around (unless you install a program for it ).
6. Because it is easy to use: There are programs and versions of Linux only suitable for programmers and other cyber gurus. However, there are distributions that have nothing to envy to Windows or Mac OS X in its simplicity. With Ubuntu or OpenSuSE, for example, you can do anything with the mouse, even if you have not touched a computer before. Furthermore, once installed are now ready for use, without installing anything else.
7. Perfect for learning computer: Linux owes its origins to the programmers, they needed an operating system to practice without spending the semanada in an expensive Unix license. So any distribution may serve to give you your first steps with C, Python, Perl, Java, PHP or Ruby.

8. Because it is attractive: Have you tried an Linux with Compiz Fusion installed? Laugh of Windows Vista or Leopard. The latest designs from desks Linux are spectacular, making the most of the power of your graphics card and make a mockery of the competition.
9. It makes you interesting: Although years ago you could consider a stranger, now many of you know or have heard of Linux but do not dare to use it, so if you know that you consider using a computer expert.
10. Because it is the future: Linux is installed on personal computers, supercomputers, next generation consoles and even your phone runs Linux . Like it or not, Linux is very handy and can do anything, so that in future the vast majority of new gadgets will run Linux in its bowels.

The good, the bad and the ugly of Windows 8

The output of Windows 8 , and already a little more relaxed and willing spirits coin to see in its proper dimension limitations, let's quickly review the good points, the bad and the ugly that presents the new operating system Microsoft.
The good, the bad and the ugly of Windows 8

The Good
Without doubt, all versions of Windows I've ever installed, this is one of the faster and easier. It reminded me a bit to an installation of Ubuntu, not only for its speed, but also for its attractive interface.
The new interface Metro meets its purpose quite well: point and click. Nothing difficult to understand instructions or print so tiny that it is a feat to read. In Metro everything is great and well defined so that no mistakes possible
The Bad
Well, there are also negatives of course (at least from my point of view), and ironically one of the biggest is just one of its strengths: the multi touch interface.
Okay that is the natural evolution in the interaction with our devices, but because Microsoft has rays requires us to use it? What if user I prefer to continue with the traditional mouse and keyboard? Both the Developer and in this there is no chance that the user can choose natively. Hopefully Microsoft reconsider this point for the next RC.

Ugly
Metro Oooh! How nice! And if it really is a visually pleasing interface and practice, but what about the rest?. Both the Control Panel as the directory tree (you know, where we manage our partitions and disks) have the same interface we've seen version behind the Windows version. What was not enough to the folks at Microsoft to design something nice and new also here?

The young man who hacked Facebook will have 8 months in prison

The young British attacked several times in 2011 servers in the social network Mark Zuckerberg has been sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 8 months by Judge Alistair McCreath, after being charged with 5 counts related to hacking, which
occurred during the month of August.
The young man who hacked Facebook in 2011 will have 8 months in prison

And we must say that this is the first case of its kind that has occurred in the UK, with research that had to be made jointly between the FBI , Scotland Yard and the social network.

The aim of the judgment appears to be mostly a warning to potential future events that may make other students.

To detail the matter, it appears that Glenn Mangham decided to hack Facebook's servers from 27 April to 9 May last year, its purpose was to discover security holes to offer assistance to the social network, however, things did not go as the 26 year old expected.

When arrested, Glenn claimed to be guilty, but said his "noble" intentions, and then assure that Facebook users' data had not been committed, but felt that it was a rather serious matter, and the social network should invest some $ 200,000 to fix these flaws used by Glenn.

As you all know, companies often hire hackers to fix several security flaws are detected and used by these, and this is what I have tried to make Glenn Mangham, but it all happened as he had planned.

The photos you delete on Facebook are still on their servers

We all know that the images that we delete our account on Facebook are not really deleted immediately, however, contrary to what many might imagine, the truth is that many of these photographs remain always on servers in the network, and never are eliminated.
The photos you delete on Facebook are still on their servers

In fact, it was revealed that there are many images on the servers of Facebook that were deleted more than three years, and as we mentioned, remain stored there.
Even worse is knowing that the problem still seems far from resolved, and that apparently would be a purely technical problem that Facebook does not seems to be devoting great attention to solve.
As reported by Ars Technica, the photos you delete a Facebook profile could continue to be stored, so we have decided to contact directly with the social network managers to give them an explanation, having received the news question of technical details that have not yet been solved.
Still, for what was reported, Facebook has said that he is working on migrating to a new system to be able to overcome this problem, allowing the social network to permanently delete those pictures that have been deleted by users within a maximum of 45 days.

  5. Use technology security: antivirus, firewall and antispam applications represent the most important to protect the computer against the main threats that spread through the Internet. Using these technologies reduces the risk and exposure to threats.
  6.  Avoid entering personal information into forms : When the user is faced with a web form fields containing sensitive information (eg username and password), you should verify the legitimacy of the site. A good strategy is to verify the domain and using the HTTPS protocol to ensure confidentiality of information. Thus, it may prevent phishing attacks that try to obtain sensitive information via the simulation of a trusted entity.
  7.  Use caution with the results generated by search engines: Through techniques of Black Hat SEO , attackers tend to position their sites ranked among the top positions on search engine results, especially in cases of keyword searches widely used by the public, such as current affairs, news extravagant or popular topics (eg, sports and sex). If any of these searches, the user must be aware of the results and verify what is being linked websites.
  8. Accept only known contacts: For both IM clients and social networks, you should accept and interact with known contacts only. This will prevent access to the profiles created by attackers to communicate with victims and exposed to various threats such as malware, phishing, cyberbullying or other.
  9.  Avoid suspicious executable files: The spread of malware is usually done through executable files. It is advisable to avoid the execution of files unless you know the safety of yourself and your reliable source (whether it comes from a contact to IM, email or a website). When downloading files from P2P networks, so it is suggested to analyze prior to its execution with a security solution.
  10. Use strong passwords: Many Internet services are protected with a password, so as to protect the privacy of information. If this password is simple or common (widely used among users), an attacker could guess and therefore to hack like the real user. For this reason we recommend the use of strong passwords, to different types of characters and a length of at least 8 characters.
As always, good practices serve to increase the level of protection and are the best accompaniment for security technologies. Whereas the latter are responsible to prevent the likelihood of some type of incident, user education achieved this less exposed to threats, something that surely any reader will want to use the Internet daily.
We take the day in question to celebrate with you the existence of the Internet, along with everyone from the place trying to make use of the technologies for better and safer experience.
