Difference between 32 and 64 Bits

Difference between 32 and 64 Bits
Hi all. Surely many of you have asked about that difference between 32 and 64 bits, and that today we must choose in this respect in the processors, operating systems and software; good because with this post I want to clarify these differences and to share a little more of knowledge.
Difference between 32 and 64 Bits

PROCESSORS: Let's start with the basics and understand why vary between 32 and 64 bits. To do it in a didactic way supogamos a 32-bit processor is a four-lane highway where cars (data) are at 100 km / h, and now with a 64-bit the same cars (data) would face the same speed but now in a eight-lane highway, which could move more cars (data) that in a four-lane road only.

For 64-bit processors, this means they can work twice as much data in the same clock cycle (one hertz), can access more memory and processing larger files. Currently a 32-bit processor can handle a maximum of 4 GB of RAM, while a 64-bit processor has the ability to control 16 Exabytes of memory, or 16 billion GB, a fairly surprising.

As to the mathematical calculations will also be advantages in that a 32-bit processor can represent numbers from 0 to 4,294,967,295, and a 64 bit capacity increase achieved that can represent numbers from 0 to 18,446744,073,709,551,615. Obviously this means that computers can make operations with larger quantities and small quantities calculations more efficient.

As we see the differences are quite remarkable and certainly have a 64 bit processor would definitely improve our hardware capabilities, especially to work with memory ram.

OPERATING SYSTEM: When we find different versions of any operating system (Windows, Linux or Mac) and must choose between a 32 or 64-bits to keep in mind:

1. To install a 64-bit version on our computer we have a 64-bit or otherwise we can not install it.

2. The 32-bit versions can be installed with any type of processor either 32 or 64 bits.

3. If you install a 32 bit version on a computer with processor 64 will be wasting the advantages this processor brings, because to get full potential you need to have a 64 bit installed.

4. The 64-bit operating systems are more used to level profession where you really require the full potential of the machine, in addition to many 64-bit systems have lots of software incompatibility.

SOFTWARE: When software must choose between 32 and 64 bits first and most important thing to consider is what type of operating system and if we have installed 32 or 64 bits respectively so select the software to install.

Many 64-bit systems have to install software incompatibility of 32 bits, so we recommend putting on only 64-bit versions for better performance and avoid problems, though the systems today come with many improvements to prevent this.
